 Artwork  Guidelines
During printing process, we trim prints out of large size batches of paper. Paper trimming may result in margins of errors of +/- 1mm (or +/- 0.04 in). Also, it requires excess trimming space in order to result in desired product dimension. Due to these factors, when designing, you need to understand Bleed Zone/Trim Lines/Safe Zone concepts and the impacts to your work.

If you are using our ‘Online Design’ tool, these zones factors are already covered and resolved by our tool. However, if you design your own works and use ‘Online Upload’ for your works, we are expecting and will fit your work into ‘Bleed Size’. Either way, you will receive instant online PDF proof containing end result that you can verify.

1. Vector Graphic .vs. Non-Vector Graphic   TOP

Vector Graphics can be reduced/enlarged without affecting image resolution. Fonts and shapes are typical examples of vector graphics. You can also find quite a lot vector graphics from our Online Design tool's 'Arts & Photos Gallery'.

Non-Vector Graphic is composed of pixels with fixed dimension. Typical graphic images such as .tif, .jpg, .png or .bmp are examples of non-vector graphics. When you enlarge a non-vector graphic, its resolution is reduced and may affect printout quality. Press printing requires 300 dpi (dot per inch) resolution graphics to have quality result. For example, if your graphic dimension is 1024X768 in pixel, the quality printing size would be 1024/300 X 768/300 in inch (or 3.41 in X 2.56 in). Increasing the size larger than 3.41 in X 2.56 will deteriorate printout resolution quality.

2. Graphic Resolution Setting and Concerns   TOP

To get quality fine printing output, graphic’s resolution must have at lease 300 dpi (dot per inch).

For monitor display, typical graphic resolution is 72 dpi. Please be aware, 72 dpi graphic may appear sharp on monitor but result in poor quality when sent to press printing that requires much higher resolution. For example, if you cut/paste screenshot for printing, the printout will look unacceptably rough. Also, when you enlarge a non-vector graphics, its resolution is reduced based on your scale size. When designing your graphic, please make sure your graphic resolution meet printing need.

3. Color Setting - CMYK Color and RGB Converted Pleasing Color   TOP

We are using full CMYK 4-color. For printing, CMYK color space is required. Please note that CMYK and RGB color spaces are different. Certain CMYK colors do not have corresponding RGB settings, and vice versa. We strongly suggest that you set CMYK color space and embed CMYK ICC Profile in your work. When you submit your work using 'Online Upload', our conversion process will honor your CMYK ICC Profile if it is embedded. If not, we will use our industry standard CMYK ICC profile during conversion. For graphics in RGB color space (color used by monitor), we will convert your RGB to 'Pleasing' CMYK colors that are close to original RGB colors. 'Pleasing' Colors are similar, but not 100% identical to original RBG colors. We control the margin of discrepency under 15% between actual printed CMYK colors and colors appears in proof pdf we generated at end of 'Online Design' or 'Online Upload' processes.

4. Size Setting - Bleed Zone Size and Product Size   TOP

We are expecting your design in 'Bleed Zone' dimension instead of actual product size. For example of 3”X2” business card, your design dimension shall be its bleeding size of 3.58”X2.08”. Please refer to Product Size Specifications for the complete list of zone sizes specifications for all our products.

5. Bleed Zone/Trim Lines/Safe Zone   TOP

These zones and lines are drawn in Online Design work area, PDF proof and downloadable design templates.

For proof PDF and Online Design, these zones and lines are for demonstration purposes and will not be printed. For our downloadable design templates, they come with zones and lines and explanations to help you design your work. For Brochure, we offer two types cutting and three types of folding options. Please click here to see cutting and folding demonstration.

Similar to zone's trimming, each cutting or folding line has error margin of +/- 1mm (or +/- 0.04in). Safe zone is 2mm (or 0.08in) above/below cutting line. Please click here to see cutting and folding line specification.

For proof PDF and Online Design, these drawn folding/cutting lines are for demonstration purposes and will not be printed. For our downloadable design templates, if chosen, they may come with folding/cutting lines and explanations to help you design your work. You MUST DELETE these demonstration purposed content from templates before saving your work. If not, they will become part of your design and printed. 10. Font Concerns - Outline fonts (Illustrator) or Curved fonts (CorelDRAW)   TOP

We may not have your fonts in our system. When you use Online Upload to upload your Illustrator or CorelDRAW file, we will replace your fonts, if not supported by our system, with our system’s default font. In this case, the conversion result will not appear as you expect in terms of fonts.

To avoid font problem,
    • ADOBE Illustrator (.ai) - You must 'Outline' your fonts
    • CorelDRAW (.cdr) - Fonts need to be 'Curved'
    • Adobe PDF (.pdf) - You need to embed fonts with subset set to 100%.

11. Must Embed External Referenced Images   TOP

When using professional software such as Illustrator or CorelDRAW, you need to embed all your external referenced images when saving your work. If not, during your Online Upload, we will not be able to locate those external images, and thus, result in missing graphics in proof PDF.

You must carefully verify proof PDF to identify missing pieces and fix them before placing your order. WITPrint.com is not responsible and will reject your claims for missing external images.

12. Minimum 0.2 mm (or 0.75 pt)Line Width Printing Precision Limitation   TOP

Our press machine has limitation of 0.2mm minimum line width. Lines with width less than 0.2mm may be missing or may not appear clearly in printout. For vector graphics, our system will automatically fine-tune your line with to 0.2mm if it is less than 0.2 mm. However, for non-vector graphics, our system is not able to fine tune the line width if less than 0.2 mm. As a result, the line may or may not appear correctly in printout.

13. Individual Content for Each Side   TOP

When using Online Design, our tool will create tab for each side containing the side's content.
When using Online Upload, you need to prepare and submit one individual file for each side.
